Description

Action

In the middle of this worm hotel there are two compost compartments. In the two small compartments on the side is a hygroscopic block that can store 24 liters of water. On top of that you put potting soil and plants.

The worms can move freely back and forth between the different compartments

In the first compost bin you place the compost worms. Feed your worms uncooked vegetable and fruit residues, interspersed with lots of cardboard. They also love coffee grounds. The worms convert this into first-class worm compost. Because the worms can move freely through the adjacent planter, they immediately feed your plants. The water reservoir ensures that there is always a nice moist environment for your worms.

When the first compost bin is full, start filling the second bin. If the worms in the first compartment no longer find food, they automatically crawl through the stainless steel perforated plate to the second compartment

It is not bad if worms remain in the first container. They rumination their poop, and they crawl through the earth in search of food. Also put a banana peel or coffee grind for them between the plants once in a now and then!

If the second container is full, check that the first container is ready: the compost should look like crumbly forest soil. You can harvest the compost now and use it right away. Perhaps the top layer is not yet fully composted. Put this still unpalatable waste back in the bin after you have harvested the good compost. Now you are going to add your waste (and cardboard) to the first bin again.

. The excess rainwater, mixed with the ‘worm tea’ is collected in the drip tray. Do not forget to empty it regularly.

Weatherproof

Due to its size and construction, the Buurtwormenbak offers the worms sufficient protection against extreme cold or heat. So he can stay outside in the summer and winter. However, composting will decrease in the winter. In the summer, the water reservoirs ensure that the soil does not dry out.
